UKE CLUB: About the Uke Club
WHO?
Uke Club is run by cartoonist D.J. Coffman, who hates talking about himself in the third person, so I'll stop right now. For my past projects, see my old website. Currently, I'm drawing a daily webcomic that's probably NOT for everyone. I suggest pg-13 maybe? Bottom line, it uses coarse language and some subject material isn't suited for kids or the easily offended. All that said, the link is: yirmumah.net
WHAT?
Uke Club is primarily a place for me to blog about the ukulele underground or post comics about the ukulele.
WHY?
Why did I start Uke Club? Well, I started playing ukulele because I needed a hobby, since drawing cartoons became a full time gig. I thought it might be sad if I didn't have an actual "hobby" that wasn't my work. After hearing the song "Soon Forget" by Ed Vedder, I knew I had to learn to play this thing, so that I could relax and play little ditties like that one. --- I was bitten by the uke bug soon after.. Launching Uke Club was a way to share ukulele with some new people, and even though I'm not an expert, I thought it might be good to use the skills I have (cartooning) to teach people the ukulele in a really simple and FREE form. I admit, I'm no expert at all, but who needs to be when you got four strings and the truth? Anyone can play the uke, and that's the awesome thing about it.
WHEN?
The site will be updated as often as I get time to do it. There is no set schedule, although I'd REALLY love to at least post once a day with occassional ukulele themed comic strips.
& HOW?

I learned to play ukulele afte buying up Ralph Shaw's videotape and a couple uke books, I learned the basics and tried memorizing all the chords and practicing on how fast I could switch chords, learning simple 3 chord songs like "Let my love open the door" etc...

The very FIRST uke I owned was one given to me by a friend. It was a dinky little learner soprano. Then I bought a HIlo Tenor Kit from good ol' Roy Cone at ukuleleworld.com -- it sounded fine, but my next uke was the Black Lava Fluke, became my favorite to play, and that's when I learned that just about all ukes had different sounds. My favorite ukes to play currently are the Lanikai Cutaway Tenor Uke and my black Fluke Ukulele.

My next uke will probably be a custom uke of some sort, when I can afford one. No sense in spending all the money on various one and filling a room when I should save the money and get something proper made.

THE COMICS: Are drawn on Bristol Board, scanned into Photohop, then colored via a Wacom Tablet. I also do all my web design stuff in Dreamweaver.
